Smooth UV for turbosmoothed models?
show user profile  TheShrike
Hi all, Just curious about this and can't seem to get a clear answer on searches... how do I get a smoothed UV after a turbosmooth, so that my UVs don't get all messed up when it is on? I want to keep turbosmooth in the stack and not collapse it, but also not have to adjust UVs after applying turbosmooth. I am having problems along the borders of the UV, with stretching issues.

Thanks all for any feedback

Are you putting your UV modifier above turbosmooth in the stack? It should be the other way around, unwrap then smooth.

I don't think that's the case, he said he doesn't want to edit UVs after smoothing.

I believe the issues are with some polygons stretching after they smooth.
You'll have to add more geometry in those places to keep the polygons on the edge to stretch too much

Thanks for the replies. From what I've read, it seems like Maya and other 3d packages have a function that smooths the UV after its been subdivided, to keep the UVs relatively similar to the lower poly unwrap. I don't quite understand how ppl unwrap objects that have been smoothed, due to the fact that there are usually so many polys. Even with a good computer, too many polys in the unwrapper will freak it out. But if I just use the unwrap from my lower object I get distortions around the seams from the smoothing.

Nobody does

You have to learn how to avoid that. Adding more geometry around the parts that smooth much is a first step
