Smooth Problem
show user profile  Busted Ed

I'm currently working on a game which will have a cinematic intro. I'm working on that aswell as on the game models. Some of the models that appear in the cinematic appear in the game aswell, so I made two versions for each one. I'm now working on a satalite-like ship, in which I made some greeble. I applied Turbo Smooth in it, but it doesn't give me the look I want, also it gives me a serious problem which I will show you:

This is the original model, which is very low poly, I added the smooth modifier, but even though it's good looking, it's not enough for a cinematic. This is the only way I don't have problems.

This one has turbo smooth, which looks preety good, but it gave me problems.
(I turned Explicit normals, Materials and Smoothing Groups)

This is the problem:

I don't know why this happens since that part it's extruded, not a model apart, although in some pars I used the greeble modifier, still, this never hapened, I don't know Why it's happening.

Also, the turbo smooth doesn't satisfy me completly since it give me these edges:

Is there any kind of smooth the keeps these edges straight? I believe if all the edges were straight I wouln't have any problems like the one on the third screeshot.

I would really appretiate any help, all I learned in 3ds max was self taught so there are some stuff I still struggle with.

Thank you for your time.
