Slower Max with time.
show user profile  Sangre
I have a minor issue with my viewport performance. While working with high poly car models it's getting slower and slower with progress. After 3d max is reloaded problem is gone for some time.
Maybe there are some settings that should be changed to reduce performance slow down?
Here are my sys speqs:
4 Gb RAM
dual core Athlon 2GHz
Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512 MB VRAM

Is there a performance driver for Radeon?

What version of Max are you running? 2012 has increased viewport performance ten-fold. Tried and tested... so if you're using that and still getting issues. Then something may be wrong with your hardware or install.

Maybe try a garbage collection. gc() in the listener (or gc light:true to retain the undo buffer).
Sounds like the memory gets cluttered.

Max version 2009, forgot to mansion. I'm almost sure it's memory issue, don't know how to solve it though...

the answer you won't want to hear is upgrade to 2012. 2009-11 are slow.

Yes, that's the answer I don't really wont to hear. Guess I don't have money for max 2012 so far, but I might check 1 month trial version :(.
I've heard a lot of good stuff about 2009-th version though...

DUDE! I had the exact same thing happen to me... It was weird because it would slowly get clunky as shit, max would crash, I would restart it, and then I could push the viewport without any problems for about 10 minutes, then it would crash again...

Let me guess... 2009 or 2011?

obviously install all service packs/hotfixes if you haven't already done that.

Does max 9 version has the same problem??? I have a copy of it, but can't really use it now since my client sends me car models in max 2009 for me to rebuild them. Plus, max 9 version doesn't have some handy tools like segments value in chamfer tool of poly modeling (I wonder if there's plugin to add this segments value bar to 9-th version..?)

Haha, yeah, that probably was the issue I was having.. I know it sounds stupid, but I just (after 3 years or so of dinking around with this software) figured out that there were service packs out there...

I am a moron. Haha.

Downloaded service pack from here:
Worked for like two hours on high poly model now with no noticeable lags :). Hope it helped. Thanks advance-software!

You're welcome mate.

Always install all available patches/service packs for your software !

(unless there are known problems with the patch that you want to avoid)
