Slovenian AS 332

Hey guys, got another helicopter gig. Spent all last night working on the textures and in all have probably hit about 30 hours or so on this project. So far these are just with diffuse maps. It's 17k polys at the moment. I'm probably going to take a few days break and then go back and attack some more details and the normal/specular maps.

I worked on a few different configs of I think the AS332 L2 in the past.. Have a couple of different seating-types ( highback/lowback with different harnesses ie lapstrap / 3-point etc ) if you need any of that it's no skin off my nose.. Can't really comment on the pics as on the moby just now!

Sweet mate, that would be wicked. Have not had time to fill it out yet with seating, I think long term they are going to want two different versions, some with equipment etc. Rip away at the pics, there are plenty of things I need to touch up on. Loads of interior details to do :(

So no update for a bit, had a few other projects etc. I decided to try and make a scene for the helicopter and then do some matte painting for the background to get some practice in. Here is where I am at, just found a sky and some grass, need to do a lot of matching and think I need to bring in more into the foreground to tie the CG bit with the background more. I know my grass bit to the right is not the same color, one of the things I need to work on is making everything work together. It's very rough atm, have been watching some of the Gnomon workshop stuff.

Looking really nice mate! The camera tilt is a nice compositional touch gives a sense of movement.. Only crits i can think of would be - it ( the chopper ) is a little dark, perhaps consider changing the angle of the sun from top down to possibly camera-side top down to bring out some bump/spec/reflection detail on the visible side.. A touch of real reflection would be nice too if possible. Another idea would be to try and restrict specular hilights to non-wobbly areas ( at the moment the windows are shining but some of the low-poly-ness can be seen where the specular isn`t quite smooth ). A couple of the paler materials ( the wheel hubs for example ) seem a bit unloved..

Composition wise i`d suggest keeping to what you have in terms of camera angle but possibly bring the cam back a touch and play with fitting those rotors in a bit more - possibly even rotate those a bit so that one is coming quite close to the foreground/camera ( which`d lend itself to a touch of dof on the extreme foreground ).. Just a thought! The other heli in the bg is a little distracting as it sits behind the tail - if there`s some way of keeping it in there but have it not quite sitting behind/conflicting with the foreground that might help..

In terms of colour correction etc i`d be tempted to choose a specific pallete and stylise a touch - things like dropping down the saturation of the grass in the bg, isolating chosen pallete colours etc.. Something to think about.

Quite impressed with how well you`ve blended cgi and background plate there mate :)

BTW apologies for forgetting about those seats if you still need them i`ll get them over..

No worries man. Some great crits there, thanks a lot. I will def make a few changes over the weekend. I agree it is a bit too dark. I will take on your ideas on board and have a play. I really like your idea about the rotor and the DOF.
