Slicing only part of a model?
What i am trying to do is an animation similar to this:
i did the above by creating a rectangle and using the lathe modifier but is there away of achieving with an edit poly model?
i have tried to use two slice tools together but one ends up cutting the back of the other and the model never appears to grow only rotate?
what im looking for is for the model to grow in a cylindrical motion from nothing?
is there a way of doing this without re-modeling my 3d model?

Tube primitive, animate the slice values.

Hey thanx MrGrotey, that is far simpler than what i did above using a spline and using the lathe tool but is it possible to create this effect to an edible poly?
only i have a couple of models i'd like to use this effect on?
but to be honest it wouldn't be a real strain to just re-model them i just wanted to make sure i wasn't make more work for myself?
just to clarify is it not possible to limit the range of the slice modifier? I was trying to re-create the slice effect within the tube primitives using 2 separate slice modifiers on an edible poly but because you cant limit the range they end up undoing the others progress if that make any sense?

What about trying a morph with multiple targets (if needed). Or maybe you can animate using the FFD modifier (control less points in your animation).
I would also like to limit the slice modifiers plane, but I don't think that it's possible.

If you only need to animate a tube basically closing or partially closing, the slice should be perfect.

If only I'd have suggested that up there ^^ in my first reply :p ;)
If its a more complex object how about this?
