Skin not binding to CAT rig

Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to 3DSmax coming from little experience with Maya and Mudbox. I have recently started trying to rig a few models using the character animation toolkit(CAT) and all went well in setting up the bones but when I got to binding it with my model problems sprung up left right and center. First I tried adding a skin modifier and adding all the bones. When I went to test the animation, the rig moved but it wasn't connected to my model. I tried again using physque but no matter how I set my envelopes it ripped my model into sharp pointy pieces. Help?
