Hi every one , do some one know a good tutorial or a series of tutorials about the skin modifier ?
Tried googling them but most of those I found cover only the basics , I need something that covers all the modifier abilities.

I think this is not the right approach guys.

really when skinning even though there are many tools I only find myself using the vertex selection and weight table.
I know there are way more tools like painting the weights and the information spreadsheet, but I just don't find them useful.

instead of trying to learn every single aspect of 3dsMax start making projects and investigate how to do things as you need them. That is pretty much the way I learn my things and even if I say so myself I'm doing pretty good with that method.

>>I need something that covers all the modifier abilities.

max's help file covers every single parameter of every single element in max, just saying.

Im no expert on this, but I can give you a helping hint on how I would go about it, its helped me quickly rig characters in the past, and makes it easier to finesse later on. Ill try use a teapot as example you might have to interpret the rest.

Turn on Select Verticies
Turn off "Show Envelopes" under Display
Select the very bottom most bone, select all verticies and assign to 1.0 using the Weight Tool
Select the next bone up, Deselect the bottom 2/3 rows (in this case), Assign .75
Select the next bone up, Deselect the bottom 2/3 rows (in this case), Assign .5
etc.
Once you get to the top bone you should have a fairly even gradient. You can then go inbetween bones and adjust seperately for smaller fingers/larger elbows joints etc.

Hope this makes sense o.O

I made a video not long ago semi explaining how to fix something using the weight tool, give me a second and I'll post it here

Unable to display content. Adobe Flash is required.

if you still cant understand how to use it, I'll try to make you a video on how to skin a model (my method)

I have a lot of work to do, but I like helping ppl. If you understand how to use it please let me know.

Thanks for your help , the videos are good and I do understand how it works (in theory).
the only problem I have is it just doesn't work like in the videos , may be I am not doing everything right but I'll keep trying.
thanks again.
