Any chance of a layer by layer breakdown or such?

As usual: your work is sick.

Curious about some specifics...

1. How much free reign did you have on that pic? Was it you fulfilling the directors needs, or you showing the director your vision/version/interpretation?
2. Did you have stock photography and make it work, or were you given the elements?
3. How much was 3D?
4. How long / how many revisions?

1. How much free reign did you have on that pic? Was it you fulfilling the directors needs, or you showing the director your vision/version/interpretation?

I had general guidelines provided to me via Art director and Director. I created multiple options as well as many revisions per shot to figure out the overall "look" of the movie. One key thing that was difficult was that they always wanted it more like the graphic novel (two tone) and I naturally gravitate to greyscale highly detailed work. So finding the right balance was a huge challenge.

2. Did you have stock photography and make it work, or were you given the elements?
I shot my own photos for some shots. Painted alot in PS and pulled every trick i could to make it work.

3. How much was 3D?
Most architecture elements were 3d and then painted on top. I did this so that I could establish the perspective as fast as possible, and I model in Max pretty quickly

4. How long / how many revisions?
I delivered about 2 shots a day, some had 15 versions, some had two.

These are just a few selects. There are about a hundred pieces

Thanks for the reply. Really cool you had so much input. Must feel good to be trusted/respected to that level. Would be great to see some of the other shots you did (at 2 a day... WTF!?).

Well defined sin city impression.
The city, car.. made to be energetic, by light in a dark environment.

And it express sin city life style..

Nice work zan!!
