Simple texturing question
show user profile  PS3D
Apologies if this is a rather simple question, but I'm not sure how to do this without photoshopping..

basically, I want to dirty up the edges of the grass areas of my model (perhaps just make the grass texture map slighter darker on the edges) so they don't look so neat and pristine!

Could someone possibly please demonstrate how to do this for me in max??

Cheers.

Hi mate. How are you making the grass at the moment? Is it scattered in forestpack/multiscatter? Are you using displacement? Which render engine?

Hi. It's simple displacement. I'm doing an aerial site plan, so doesn't need to be that detailed. I just want the outer edges to appear a bit rougher.

I'm using vray.

You can use vertex painting and a blend map.

Check youtube.

The basics: add vertex paint modifier and paint your grass black and white. Add a blend map with the grass texture placed in both slots. Now with one of the textures play with the output so it's a different hue.

Seems a bit pricy for what it is, but there's Gradient Edge....
