A Very simple thing (I'm sure) but its driving me absolutely nuts -

Hello!
Please someone help before I go completely nuts.
I'm following a tutorial - and all I want to do is create a wheel arch.

So: Standard primitives> Plane
drag out the plane.

Right click and convert to editable poly

click the modify tab, and select 'Edge'
Now please God can someone explain to me why I can't shift click and drag out the sides - I did it earlier (honestly!) What am I leaving out?
Absolute huge thanks in advance (seriously)

Dunno. Works here.

Make a plane. Add an Editable Poly to it. Go into Edge, select an edge, then with move-tool selected drag the edge.

You might have to select it and then drag it out. Dunno why it's not working for you mate.

could be a couple of things. sometimes you'll have a couple of edges really close and the edge your selecting is not on the edge of the object. Also check you don't have Edge/Face constraints on.

Do you have the edge or face constraint activated? look down the modifiy panel where it says none/edge/face/normal an make sure its on none.

Or yeah as stianbl said, you cant shift drag edges if you are in select mode, you have to be in move mode.

Hello!
wow, that was a quick response folks - really appreciate that. I've got it, the 'move' button in the transformation menu wasnt selected.
Thanks everyone - amazed at the speed you all jumped in!

Huge thanks!
Matt.

While you are all there, can you recommend a good clear step by step for complete beginners in all things car modelling?

Nice, while you're all here, could you all throw £500 each into my paypal account?

... worth a shot.
