Short action animation WIP progress 3, materials and rendering
show user profile  ravihara
guys, since this is my first human animation, i thought of giving up making my animation perfect on this project, and moved to the next step, lighting and rendering. i almost finished materials for main objects including the main actor. but now with the fast sss skin and mrSun, i am loosing my character's details which are normal mapped.with mrSun, it looks if all are flat. and looks like if the self illumination is cranked up. how do i get the details of my normal maps emphasized? please help.

here is the current result, *PLEASE VIEW IT FULL SCREEN 720p* :

( before it was showing my normal mapped depth like this :

up the multiplier i guess
finally worked out what's been bugging me about this animation- there's little to no hip movement so the leg action looks exaggerated and the torso a bit floaty feeling

I think you could bang your head against a wall over this forever more if you wanted to, at the end of the day, what do YOU think if it, I only say this because the more you work on it, the less you might start looking at it, if that makes sense.
Maybe leave it for a day or 2 so its not ingrained in your head, then go back to it, the bits that are wrong (if there are any) might be more obvious.
Id personally be very happy with it, especially the blood and the way it slows down convincingly.

I think the shoulders move far too much as he is running, and definitely the hips need some more notion. could just be my personal opinion, this is a really good piece of work so far - and I'd be tempted to say making it any more realistic would require mocap data or something of the sorts.

thanks guys for awesome comments and suggestions. I finally fixed the lighting. it was something to do with the indirect illumination. in my case, indirect illumination doesn't create shadows?!
so what i all had to do is position my character to be light up by the direct illumination of the sunlight, so it will give perfect shadows from the normals maps.
so here is the fixed result :

I finished the Hair Simulation of the main character. And finalized the camera motion.

haha the hair is cool man. You might consider lowering the elasticity a bit. Its kinda spongy when the character slows to hit a bad guy.

Holy shit..adding the hair..creates such a realism to it.

I feel the hair moves more like those of models in shampoo adds..too smooth & silky :P

Keep it up..looks really nice.
