Time sensitive- Updating The Foundry's "Camera Tracker"
show user profile  9krausec
Okay, for a while I was thinking about buying some camera tracking software.. Sytheyes was my top pick until I found out about camera tracker..

Now, on the foundry (for today only), they have a 40% markdown on the Camera Tracker software and I was seriously thinking about picking it up..

However, I was wondering, HOW the foundry goes about letting costumers upgrade?

For instance, choasgroup for Vray, you buy it, then you can upgrade anytime you want for free. Is that the same for the foundry (looking to some Nuke users which I know are here for answers).

Let me know, because if I can upgrade this for free whenever a new version comes on board, I'm all in, but if not, I might not, dunno..

Thanks guys! (check that sale out btw, awesome price... 40% markdown from 288 dollars, woohoohahahahaooo!)

edit: and just to make certain, this is a alternative for Boujou and Sytheyes, correct?

this is nowhere near an alternative, it's ideal if you use it for compositing but it's lacking when you want to use it for 3D purposes. (and not very stable as well)

Nukes camrea tracker is one of the best Ive ever used so if your going to buy one I would say go for it :) , as for the upgrade Im not sure how it works with the foundry guys.

@KB- 3d purposes you say? Well, in my mind, the basics of a camera tracker is this (and please let me know if I'm wrong, I'm not versed in this stuff)..

You have footage, the software tracks the motion of points of contrast (more the better), then it takes that data and allows you to export it out as a 3d camera (for 3ds/maya/etc..)..

Then you make a camera in your 3d software, align a group plane up and render out your stuff with the proper alpha..

composite the 3d with the video.
right?

What would you suggest KB?

And thanks DannyMax for the reply as well.. Does nuke use the exact same tracker (camera tracker by the foundry)? I know the foundry makes both...

Good point, well, I guess I have the rest of today to try this bad boy out and see what's what.
