Semi new to 3ds Max: Need help with a simple crane project (pivots?)
show user profile  cynik6
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum and somewhat new to 3ds Max 7. Right now I'm tryign to learn how to link and what not. I created a simple crane and I'm just using a cylinder as the rope. As I raise the crane arm up with the rope linked to it, it stays with the arm, but does not hang naturally as if it were weighted. How do I make it hang?

move the pivot point of the rope object to the end where it meets the crane arm,

Select the rope object

Go to the heirachy panel

Click the Link info button at the top of the panel

Uncheck all the rotation ticks boxes under the 'Inherit' section

Voila!!
