see through but not see through gem?
show user profile  parkerfamily
i'm trying to make as good of a gem as I can with the solid glass promaterial, and I was wondering, how can i set it so you can tell it's see through but the things behinds it don't affect it's color? i'm thinking about just having the back half of each gem white..... but i'm not sure how that would look.

adjusting the refracting index maybe? or actually putting it in a decent enviornment. Why do you think all those jewelry commercials and displays are either white backgrounds or black backgrounds?

ya, i'm trying to make a goblet with gems inset, horrible modelling, but i'm just trying to make decent textures for it. and what should i set it to? currently i have it on 2.42 for diamond, since thats the only one thats a gem.

edit: rofl, all it took was a shiny white plane and two target spot lights and it looks nice now, thanks kajico.

here
ignore the disgusting modeling, i didn't use edit poly on my actual goblet, just lathe, a line, shell, and meshsmooth.
