Section help
show user profile  Farks
Does anyone know how to cut a section plane through a building on 3ds. i've tried viewport cutting, but when i go to render there is no section cut (just the original image). i've also tried grouping the whole scene and trying to slice it, however, i can't find the slice button on the modifier list.
any help would be great! thanks tom

Edit poly -> quick slice. You'll find it in the edit geometry rollout.

i don't get the quick slice (or slice) option when i've grouped the objects

Edit: and surely the quickest way of doing it can't be to select each individual object in the scene.

Ungroup the objects, select them all and add a Slice modifier. Then collapse by converting the selection to Editable Poly (this will keep the objects separated, it will NOT turn them all into a single Editable Poly object).
Alternatively, you can add an Edit Poly modifier to the selection, use QuickSlice in it, then collapse.

I've got it to work, but it doesn't quiet give me the finish i want.

i've had some success by cutting a plane with a camera, but i can't get it to render how i see it in the viewport. is there a button i'm not clicking somewhere. i'm using iray and a free camera.

just to give some info, the reason I don't like the finish is because the objects become hollow and don't appear as solids.

You mean that after you've sliced them, you move their elements apart?
If so copy all your objects, apply a slice mod with, say, remove top on one set and another with remove bottom on the other. The add a cap holes mod to everything.
