Screw threads?
show user profile  maxing
Hi there.
Please, any tuto or sugestion on how to model threads on screws? Im modeling Paasche airbrushes
and each one has an average 12 different threads. The option im using is to do a helix, then around the cilinder the height, turns, vias cw or ccw, then a shape, then compound objects-loft, get path and thats it..but, doesn´t look very realistic.... well thats the problem... an alternative solution. Thnx in advance.

I did it once myself using the helix shape, and I recall it working rather well.
You can then taper the helix in order to make it pointy in the end, if its a self-cutting screw.

Terribly boring signature.

Quick way:
(using vray but you might be able to do something similar with the standard displacement)

Now that was cool. Never would have thought of that.

Garp - when are you going to add some pics to the gallery?
I'd like to see Andre pop up there now and then.

Garp, that is one of the smartest tricks I've seen done in Max. To think I actually wasted TWO full days trying to model something similar out of polies back when I was just getting started with 3D modeling.

Man, it sucks being a n00b, lol.
