Scene Explorer not there!
show user profile  pinkie_
I've just started getting into 3ds, and am following some basic lessons to get used to it all, but have run into a problem...

In one of the lessons the guy is talking about the Scene Explorer option in the Tools menu, but it's just not there when I go to my Tools menu!!! Instead of New, Manage, or Saved Explorers, it just starts with the Floater options...

I apologise if this is a completely nooby mistake, but I can't even find any reference to the Scene Explorer anywhere else in the program :(

Any help very, very welcome!

Hit the H key and you should see a scene explorer... I don't know why it's not in your tools menu.
What version of Max?

Hi Markoid,

It's version 9.0 SP2 with the latest hotfix doodas. When I press H, a window does open up, which gives me the option to select items, but it's nothing like the one I'm seeing on the lessons I'm following. Screengrabs to follow, showing the Tools menu where Scene Explorer should be, and the Select Objects window that's set as the H hotkey.

It's really weird. Is there some way I can install the script or whatever it is that makes it appear?

Is the content not the same... just looks different. If I reemember rightly they changed the scene explorer in recent versions of Max, so I think you are stuck with that one... though I may be wrong about that :/

Scene Explorer was introduced in 3dsmax 2008.
You can still find it in later versions such as 2009 and 2011.

Perhaps it is the same...just doesn't seem to be as featured as the Scene Explorer in the lessons. I guess it's not essential, but it just threw me :op

Thanks for your help :)
