Saving render to file -- very dark image
show user profile  toby
Hi folks, wonder if you could help.

I have a little MAXScript which simply renders to a buffer and saves it.

c = BitMap 320 240
render to:c
c.filename = "ren.png"
save c

The render in the Rendered Frame Window is fine. The one saved to the files is very dark. The grab here shows it (dark saved file on the right):

Can anyone help me understand why this is?

Many thanks
Toby

notice the display gamma in your framebuffer, it's set to 2.2 More than likely it's saving the image out with a gamma of 1.0 instead of the 2.2 gamma that you are viewing your buffer through. (assuming that's what you are referring to, aside from the background color being different).

It's been a while since I've used max, but I recall an option in the save window to specify the gamma value. in this case, you'll want to set it to 2.2.
