Saving as elements diffuse .etc help please! :)
I've never done rendering by elements and compositing them after really so I'm trying now for my scene, but have come across a problem.
I realise you render diffuse, lighting, reflections, shadows .etc separately. but I have shop fronts with things behind the glass windows and the diffuse element just renders the glass as solid black and ignores anything behind it.
How is this done then? do I have to render once with and once without the glass objects? and composite them separately? seems odd if I do as id have to render the whole scene twice.

Not sure really but i always use the actual render as the base image to fiddle with using the other elements. I'll be interested to see the right way of doing it though!

ahhhh you add a refraction element to give you the objects through the glass. Who'd have thought adding a refraction element would let you see the refracted objects :)

Max's default Render Elements are kind of... worthless :P They don't work in Linear Workflow so when compositing them together you get very strange results. Try using the Mental Ray Output Elements, and composite them all with Add. Try that, see if you get a better result... or are you not using mental ray?
