Rotating an object without effecting the direction of animation. help!
show user profile  tommtomm
I have come up with a problem that I need help with, and I hope that you might be able to help.

I am trying to create a dice which will be able to move in flash, to do this I am trying to get it to roll from side to side, (back, forward, right, left) so that I can then in actionscript get it to move in any direction i please. to do this a dice has 6 sides, 4 rotations on each face, and 4 possible rolls. giving a total of 24 positions and a total of 96 different animated rolls. ( which I am able to half and then just reverse them in flash to create the 96 rolls)

Here is the problem.

On top of that I need to animate the dice in 7 different ways when the dice reaches 1 of the 24 positions. I was hoping that I would be able to create another dice, put it in the desired pose (twisting it, bending, enlarging) and using morpher then animate dice1 onto the dummy one. hoping that I would then rotate dice1 into all 24 positions and still have the same direction of animation, of course it did not work.

Please if you have had experience in creating multiple animations and then applying them to a single object please help me, I am slowly losing my mind. Sorry if that was confusing, very hard to explaine.

kind regards tomm

LOL I know the feeling here is an image of what i mean.
both of them should be twisting at the top, but since i tried to rotate the box so that another side is facing up the modifier also twisted.
:( Its a night mare that I am sure has an answer.

ah right so you just want the green face on top as the flat one?

if so add an edit poly modifier below the twist modifier, go into element mode, select the cube and rotate it. As this is done below the twist mod it wont affect the twisting

unless im getting you wrong

mrgrotey many many thanks, although doing that with morpher still does not work. Doing it ur way is much better, I feel stupid because I tried to do it ur way before but i did not select elements I just picked the object and as you probably know that doesn't work.
Thank you for pointing out what I was doing wrong... its really frustraiting with max, the answers are allways simple.
Oh by the way I loved ur brain pic you did his features perfectly.
