RLA / RPF - with objects with ALPHA
there's a project I'm starting that I wanna render out as RLA so I could assign different object IDs to different objects in the scene and then isolate them in AE for color correction.
The problam is if I wanna use planes with ALPHA - Object ID doesnt know where its supposed to be transparet and where not.
I found half a solution with using MATERIAL ID (btw, why only 16 material ids and not infinite ????)but it didnt work out well either.
I'm sure many of you faced this before, any solution ?

Dub - How does EXR handle the aliasing with the edges where objects 'overlap' in perspective?
I ask this because this problem is precisely why the RPF/RLA route never really worked well for isolating in AE and applying 3D channel effects.
The edge always became obviously FUBAR.

So I switched it to EXR.
That alone of course didn't change how max sees the object ID channel.
What else do I need to do to make it work ?

You are correct. The ID will not respect the material opacity, only the actual geometry.
You may not want ot hear this,....but I deal with this alot, and I always render seperate passes of all hte objects I want to control individually in AE, often involving alot of matte/shad materials on other objects as well to keep all occlusions intact.
Boomer is (was) working on an incredible plug called supermatte that will render chosen objects into seperate file sequences automatically, including all correct alpha occlusions and such.
Might want to email him?

Sorry, I forgot that I'm using extra software to stuff other channels into the exr.
