Rigging and animating a character with a robe
show user profile  nyberg
Hello!

I am working on a human model that is wearing a robe. I have started to rig him but having a robe instead of two legs seems to make it more difficult. Any tips? That this is my first model ever may be worth mentioning.

Look up the cloth modifier and garment maker.. It may be worth rigging a couple of very simple legs underneath the cloth which can be animated and then simulate the cloth dynamically from that. If it`s your first model/rig, it`ll take a bit of learning/going through tutorials, but you`ll get there.

"but having a robe instead of two legs seems to make it more difficult"

your character should still have two legs underneath the robe.

model him/her in underwear and rig together like a normal character, model the robe separately, position over the model and use cloth modifier to set up vertex groups and simulate the clothing.

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.
