Rigging a tank track
show user profile  Cheb
Hi guys,

I am trying to rig a tank track, but whenever i add skin modifier to it and include bones, all weights are either 1.0 or 0. i.e. There are no falloff.

Here's a picture of what I mean:

Ok its even worse now. Verticies are going crazy, I don't understand why:

As soon as same vertex is affected by 2+ bones it offsets somewhere crazy :(

I believe there's several tutorails (both text, and video) that show how to do this, I remember someone asking a while back, and there being several examples given on how to do it. Give a google search and see what you come up with :) -

Well it looks like you are going for very low poly from the amount of the segments going around the tracks so unless you have evenly distributed edge loops along your track you wont be able to animated the geometry.

Have a look at this vid I produced a couple of years back. The geometry of the tracks is completely static and I just animated the texture to match the speed on the model, its quite acceptable I think and may be a better solution for you
