relative position to polygon

I am in the middle of a model and am trying to give a complex object thickness border around it, for this I need to move all selected pollys out in X&Z axis an equal amount.

Its the same as extrude by local poly but only in teh X & Z and NOT the Y axis though.

if it helps here is a vid of the problem I made

maybe the shell modifier would do the trick

thanks, that has been suggestiond on the youtube comments, it is something I tried but it gives the same result as the extrude by local poly tool.

If someone wants the model aswel i am more than happy to upload the part im stuck on. (im new to this site)

it may just work, moving the virtical edges back into place it may give an even thickenss, I tried this with extrude by poly but that gave un even thickenss, quick test seems to show its pushing it out evenly.

i think if you detach the elements it should work more evenly
