is it possible to create a reference image with 2 sides.
I want to be able to use a front and back reference image as a plane with out having to select and hide all the time.
I'm sure background image would probably work as an alternative. But then it wont work with perspective.... New to this, so any other suggestions would help
Thanks.
edit: What I mean by two sides is, a plane with one image on one side and another image on the other side.

strictly, a plane only has one set of normals. So you can't see both sides of it. You would have to add a thickness to it with a modifier, shell works well. Then you could use a multi-sub material with your 2 images, and rename the polysets on your thicker plane.
However , I can't work out your need for this.
still, you must have your reasons :)

Well, my need, I'm creating a 3d image of myself. and my back clearly looks different than my front. Just trying to make my life easier.
I think I found a sort of work around.
I created 2 planes. But the issue is I don't want to see both at the same time. So either I want to see my side and my front image, or my side and my back image.
I am also freezing them into place, as I don't want them to move around.
The only issue I am having with this is for some reason 3Ds Max will not let me hide something frozen or freeze something hidden. ... So I am left with freezing the 2 sides, and hiding the other side. It's workable, but not perfect. As I don't want to accidentally move the sucker when I unhide it.
Any1 know how solve that?

Look at the sea turtle tutorials - everything you've asked so far has been covered there in full glorious video by Mr.Grotey. No doubt you'll find the answers to your next few questions there too.
