Reduce file weight while modelling threads
show user profile  LeonardoGarza
Hi, Im trying to model an interior architectural space where I have this room full of threads from ceiling to floor. On the work spaces where tables are drawn, the threads will be shorter so people can work at.

The question is, how can I model all those threads without killing my computer, or not only modeling but maybe just an advice to get the same effect.

My only idea was making cylinder but with 3 sides, so they will be less heavier and that wouldt really see at all, as the threads are really thin, but still kills computer.

All the white red and black dots on Cad, are the threads.

try using layers- hide everything you don't need to see

what do you mean "threads"? Like thread in sewing or a loom?

You could just use a single plane couldn't you?
And maybe then use the look at controller to make sure they're all facing the camera.

do the threads need to do anything other then hang down? do they need to be anything other then straight? If they just need to hang straight down, do a 4 sided box with 1 length segment. That is only 12 polys per thread. How many are you going to need? Even if it's a thousand threads, that is only 12000 polys. Shouldn't be that big of a draw on your system. And array them as an instance and not a clone. That will also help.

Particles that aren't visible until rendering; xrefs, or build them and choose 'display as box' in object properties.
