The recent NVidia driver madness..
show user profile  ScotlandDave
Has anybody on here had any issues with the recent spate of bad driver updates from NVidia?

I think it was the 320.18 driver which cause a LOT of problems up to and including killing some peoples GPUs..

Personally i wasn`t aware of anything and didn`t have that driver installed but did update recently to 320.49 and have had some issues..

First of all it was occasional driver not-responding/recovered messages from windows, more recently locking-up/freezing. This is with a humble MSi 560ti card. Have put a thread up ( for what it`s worth ) on the Gefore Drivers subforum on NVidia ( thread ) explaining the issues.

Just wanted to ask here has anybody else experienced any hiccups with the most recent official drivers?

I started having those problems with 320.18. The next one didn't fix them.

Apart from the driver not responding at times (windows message) and the freezes that require a reboot, I'm also getting a funky cursor every 2 or 3 days. The pixels would be spread mostly horizontally and the rgb making the white part of the arrow would not match, giving a nice colorful blob.
Another thing that started at the same time is the sound going off, whether when watching a movie with some media player or a video from the net. To fix, I have to close and restart the application.

A week ago, I reverted to the OEM driver version from the CD that shipped with the card and the problems are still there. Apparently that fucking 320.18 driver did permanently damage the card.

That sucks. Get Nvidia to replace it.

I've been on the same drivers for about six months now. I'm almost scared to update.

You reckon it HAS permanently damaged the card?

Not sure what to think now as your issues are exactly the same as mine. So i`m quite possibly sitting on a busted gpu..

If the driver has caused it NVidia SHOULD replace the cards but what are the chances of that??

The claims they`ve made about some of the driver updates, up to 20% performance increase in certain situations etc, they must be pulling that extra performance from somewhere and it can`t be just optimised code..

[edit] Garp if you read the thread i linked to in the OP, there`s a method i used to `cause` the driver to restart which fixes the problem ( for a short period until it happens again at least ).. Although it doesn`t always work.

Interesting. Been having alot of problems with my work Laptop today. Lost all the screen res settings and wouldn't let me reset them. Painfully slow redraw rate too. Wonder if it's connected?

Had the same problem with lock ups and freezes using 320.18 drivers. Reverted back to 314.22. Seams stable...

@ScotlandDave: thanks for the link :)

edit: Downloading 326.19 beta right now. Let's see if it has magical healing powers...

yep, I'm pretty sure 318.22 rapped my card. As soon as I installed it the card started beeping at me like fekin crazy, now it won't shut up if im in sli

I'm back on 314.22; when I switched I noticed a pretty substantial performance increase in max, but the ridiculous beeping is still there

I downloaded the 326.19 beta also, bit apprehensive about installing it though. I think it`s just a win8 specific fix there`s nothing to say they`ve addressed any of the issues. And they certainly aint replying to any of the several hundred posts on the support forum so who knows..

Let us know how you get on with it!

[edit] digital3ds which card is that?

gtx590... been thinking about upgrading but I read that the 590 is pretty much as good as you'll get for the $, minus the titan of course, but idk - I still want to upgrade - this beeping is nonsense

The 590 is a beast afaik du need more?? I guess if you`re nuts for realtime rendering and you have the budget then why not..

Garp could you update this as and when and IF you have any problems with the newest beta driver. I`m hesitant to try it but the freezing seems to be becoming more regular, seems to happen a lot when i`m editing wordpress in Firefox for some reason ( i only use firefox for FireFTP and WP )..

nah no realtime rendering minus nitrous. I'm happy with the 590 except for the beeping problem, but I'm always looking to upgrade : D - but yea, I read that the 590 competes well with/beats the 680 and 780 so I'm sticking with it for now

So are you haranguing NVidia for a replacement card? I`d be knocking on their door and looks like i may well be doing so given the current scenario..

[edit] The driver numbers you mentioned - were those part of the affected ones yeah? I`ve only looked at the ones i`ve used plus i think 320.18 being the real duff one..
