really need some help on lighting if thats ok

im having a really hard time trying to get my lighting right. i have a direct light outside the house and a vray light on the window. most tutorials have theres set at a multiplier of 0.5 but when i set mine its too dark so when i up the multiplier it has to be around 20-40 to get a day light interier. and also the lights have shadows of the actual shape of the light its self if u know what i mean. i have gi on both primary and secondary on light cache.

can someone please help me out on this.
