realistic cut scenes
show user profile  kmnfive
well, i guess to be fair, or should i say, realistic, you can't render photo realism (at least a short film length scene) without a farm, armed with some serious cpu power, but how do those kids in their garages make realistic cut scenes with home hardware?

when it comes to photorealism these days you'll hit the limits of skill well before the limits of computing power. Even a scanline rendering can look perfect if treated right, using more advanced solutions raises the level of automation and the dynamicity of the result but it also pushes the control further away from the result making it more difficult to juggle.

I prefer stylistic and well executed painterly styles over photorealism any day, especially for cinematics.

I'd like to link a short film clip made in 3DS Max, about a fighter-pilot, dog fights, lots of tracking, good clouds... etc can't remember the name or author however, maybe someone can help me out! :)

Found it! :D Just a trailer - go watch the real deal over on vimeo!
