| V-Ray RT for Maya launched for Beta Tests |
chaossw |
V-Ray RT for Autodesk Maya is now available for download and ready to be tested by all current V-Ray for Maya users, registered in the Chaos Group website. V-Ray RT for Maya is an interactive rendering engine that allows immediate communication between the user and the virtual environment. It applies the changes on the scene automatically and progressively, generating a photorealistic preview of the scene. It is designed to improve and fasten the artist’s work and significantly shorten the lighting and shading set up of a project.
Everyone is free to join the V-Ray RT for Maya BETA Program and contribute to the development. Become a beta tester to experience the possibilities of this long awaited rendering solution.

I wish I'd learned V-ray rather than MentalRay. It's great to see innovation in the rendering field.
Are you listening, Autodesk? Innovation... pressing the boundries....fun. All of this seems to have been lost in max.

just a personal thing but i feel vray rt should be included in the normal vray license, or at least a simple version allowing you to make quick animatics for clients. paying for a plugin of a plugin seems a bit far fetched, i could be wrong, very very wrong..though :]

Is this GPU accelerated ?
Non-GPU accelerated VRay "RT" has been available for 3dsmax for some time.

I have VRay RT. I almost never use it.

Can you elaborate on your experiences with it, Joey?

It's slow. In the time I get any useful info from RT I can do a low res render. Also, Nik I think you could learn VRay in a day. It's very easy to use.

I dissagree with Joey, when placing highlights and adjusting lighting, I find the RT to be MUCH faster. For me, this is particularly nice for cars, since that's alot of what I do. Getting that highlight just perfect can require alot of test renders. Using the RT for those adjustments is very nice!

I don't know. Maybe you guys have super comps. I'm running win7 on core i7 920 with 12 gigs. RT stands for real time. I don't get real time images. More like a few minutes for something grainy. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Something not right there Joey, should run pretty well on your setup.
Edit.
Here's a video running on a worse setup than yours.
