Rant Thread!
show user profile  missy
Ok there was talk of doing this before, for us sad gits who every now and again. need to vent! we have a spam thread, now we have a rant thread!

For all your petty niggles, righteous indignation and outrage. Feel free to vent.

I'll start with something petty :D

Got given a lappy. Great, really, really pleased but Windows Vista what a piece of F#*king kaka.

It booted, I clicked the web...Took 3-4 mins to load. Every link I tried to click on was just the same. After 15 mins Got bored of all the waiting turned around to boot Boyfs lappy (XP) it booted quicker than loading a page. A little box pops up to tell me its installed some updates and needs to re-boot. Me thinks, ah thats why it was so choggy and slow. ok re-boot.

So I say yes, it then tells me its now gonna install the updates (WTF was it doing earlier then?) that took 10mins then it said.........shutting down.......and stayed on that page before 25 fucking mins before actually shutting down. This is one of those lappys that come with OS welded in but boy is it gonna get raped. It is not staying on here, No Way!

thats it for now :)

Vista isn't so bad when you get used to it. Get all the updates done, then switch it to manual update so it only does it when you want, not when you're surfing.

Then check out Ubuntu. Linux is really starting to rock.

I've finally got Linux the way I want it - drivers for everything & the programs I need.

Code::Blocks is an awesome programmer's IDE - imports M$ Developer Studio projects straight in. Nice !

Infinity Linux port in progress ...

Also liking Cinema 4D. Loads up fast & snappy in exactly the same way max doesn't.

xrefs like work and stuff. Amazing. Really well thought out UI - nice & clean.

Daft name, but I suppose you can't have everything ...

I hate people who in a construction zone and the road goes down to one lane, insist on trying to go all the way up to the end of the closing lane and merge over. I'm a prick and never let them over. I don't care if they try to squeeze in, i block them out. everyone else got over a mile back when the signs said the lane was closing so why didn't you??

I also hate the one asshole who decides to stay in the fast lane in the construction zone doing 20 mph less then the posted construction area mph. WTF? speed up or get the fuck off the freeway if you are unable to drive atleast the speedlimit.

I also hate having to go through my bag of takeout food before i leave the restuarant when i go to pickup lunch. I know you fucking forgot something so i might as well go through everything so i can go back in while i'm here instead of getting back to the office and realizing you forgot to put one of the sandwiches in. I mean come on.... all you had to do was put 4 burgers, 4 fries and 4 drinks together, and you end up shorting me on at least one item. Not rocket science. And you have a prompter that goes over everything that should be there, so how did you miss a whole sandwich? You didn't forget to charge me for it, so you knew it should be their.

All three of these happened to me today. Thanks for listening..... i feel much better.

Missy, something isn't right with that laptop. I run Vista, and I love it. less than a minute to desktop, fast system. Some minor niggles, but overall, a good experience Intel (dual core, 3 GB, Vista 32, OSX, Windows 7, 64bit)

AS, 2009 is the year of linux!*

*as is every year, yet it still has less than 1% of any market, outside of servers. I'm sorry, but Linux is just as bad as Windows. True, some bits are better than others. But for the limited software support, what is the point? Seriously. Linux (in all it's flavours) isn't as great as people make out. I use it, set up LAMP servers, and have to fix problems with it. Seriously, Linux makes me remember what a great product Windows really is. People that declare Linux is the best are true dorky nerds who need a reality check. AS, you are wasting your time writing any single line of code for Linux. There is no money in it. Linux people refuse to pay for anything. They are the socks and sandals open source type. Windows is best. OSX works. Linux is a fun toy, and gives the sort of person who writes M$ something to feel good about. (this isn't a personal attack, I'm drunk and bored, and feel like ranting for no reason).

Here's my rants....

OK, which ones of you assholes voted for the BNP? Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? FFS®

Gordon Brown - GTFO of office, you unelected git.You have done so poorly that people are voting BNP. Get out of office. Give somebody else a go. You were ok with money in the past, suck at leading now.

Labour GTFO you bunch of incompetent twats. We'd vote you out if you'd give us a MF election.
Bye bye.

> AS, you are wasting your time writing any single line of code for Linux. There is no money in it. Linux people refuse to pay for anything.

Negative. Windows has design flaws that are not present in Linux. A solid Linux version is required at least as proof of concept & I need to port to mac anyway, so a Linux port will get 90% of the way there (and I can't afford a mac at the moment!).

The browser will probably be free anyway - we'll make money through paid links/sponsorship, not direct from end users.

I know where you're coming from on the whole Linux frustration thing - I've been trying it on & off for a couple of years and there's always been something that doesn't work, so I've given up. This time, it actually works.

I know, can't quite believe it myself ... nice job everyone ! (not that Linux developers read maxforums)

Spoken like a gent sir, and you obviously got where I was coming from.

Good luck to you. I can see that writing for linux in your case is a good idea (also shuts up the clowns on reddit, digg and slashdot). Best of luck to you!

I agree that Windows has some major flaws, but for me, "it just works", whereas Linux is (often) a pain in the arse. It could be experience. I've been using Windows every day since 3.0. Linux I use less frequently.

As the sort of person who spends at least two nights a week, and several daily phone calls, fixing other people's computer problems, I am damned glad nobody uses Linux! Although there would currently be less viruses due to my mates surfing porn in IE (morons).

EDIT: To be fair, I've had a linux box that has been on for over a year, and has never frozen. Windows, I've had running for months at a time, but never a year without a crash.

Having said that, I can usually crash Linux (what is linux? It's a kernel, the rest is added to it in many flavours) OS's within minutes if doing more than using it as a server.

London Underground workers now work less and get paid more, the 48 hour strike is still going ahead though because Bob-suck-my-wang-Crow wants two of his staff re-instated. One was fired for incompetence (opening the doors on the wrong side) and the other was fired for theft.

SURE, THAT DESERVES A 48 HOUR STRIKE, DOESN'T IT!?

I also read, that out of all the unions who were for the strike... only 17% of the workers actually voted for it to go ahead... so why the BLEEP has it even happened!?

Higher salaries and less hours does not make sense. Their job's do not get harder, why do they deserve to be paid more for it? I'll be lucky to get a raise this year and my job gets perpetually harder!

F**K YOU RMT! Somebody murder Bob Crow... please.

The open-the-doors-the-wrong-side guy shouldnt have gotten fired, the wall on the other side is like 4" from the train, who the ferk could injure them selves falling out? fined, suspended, penalised in some way but not fired, that's just harsh. But yeah they strike every feckin 5 mins and they get paid shit loads already so they're all a bunch of twats.

I can't say I agree with you there grotes. I can admit that it was ... no, it -had- to be an honest mistake. It's the only time it's ever happened from what I remember reading. But that also brings up the "how?", they claimed that the controls were too close... but if so, why was this the first time it ever happened? That same driver was also fired because he lied to officials, though I don't know what he lied about (the controls, perhaps?).

It also happened during rush hour (i'll need to look that up again, actually) which means the train's would've been rammed to the brim (I know, because i'm on them twice a day). It is indeed very unlikely for someone to fall entirely out of the train on the wrong side, but there is a gap big enough to get your legs stuck down should you be unfortunate enough to be automatically ejected when the doors opened, and imagine being in that predicament when they forced the doors shut again!?
