Quixel - Anyone?
show user profile  9krausec
So Quixel suite 2 is 40% off today and I was thinking about picking up a copy... Can anyone vouch for it as a solid toolset for painting textures?

Looks intriguing and far less expensive than Mari. At $70 you can't really go wrong....

There was a 3d pro thread about this some weeks back, I've forwarded it to you.

Eh... I don't love Quixel. I use it, don't love it. Maybe in the future I'll change my mind, but I almost prefer the beta version I had.

Quixel Suite 2 I should specify. I'm sure they weeded out a lot of the bugs in this second version?

Anyways, having photoshop as a base is both a wonderful and very frightening thought.

Edit: Going to buy it today... May as well.

I just watched the getting started video. That's pretty damned impressive. I wish I needed it.

"I wish I needed it."

That's a beautiful way to put it. We see so many amazing programs allowing us to do incredible things but it really just boils down to whether or not it can help us with our hobbies or careers. For me, Quixel Suite is pretty off the chain, it's amazing, no doubt. And while I do own it, and dabble from time to time, the problem is I can already do what it offers, elsewhere.

are you referring to Mari or substance painter? Those are the only other 2 that I'm familiar with.

Don't forget PS. You can do it all in that beautiful program.

I bought it on sale back when it was v1.8 and yes, it was crashy. It wasn't too bad for me though. (I think because I'm on CS6 rather than CC). I've been loving 2.0 more and more. It's really a great tool when you begin to really understand the dynamasks and how to develop your materials and textures. I used it on the majority of assets on this:

I'll try to help out if you have questions. Have fun!

3d coat is my primary art tool these days. Sculpting, retopo, UV's, baking, full texture suite with PBR workflow, export straight to UE, unity, links to Maya/Max/Others (I think). It's an amazing piece of kit, super fucking annoying from time to time, and no shortage of bugs if I'm to be honest, but for being such an unknown quantity in this industry it's god damn mind blowing.

Every professional artist who uses it, doesn't understand why it isn't more known. Could be a lack of marketing, could be their borderline insane article about god and religion and other stuff in their "Our Voice" page. (seriously, it's the weirdest thing I've ever read when buying a piece of software). All I know is that it's amazing, and it keeps getting better with every version.

I've heard of it but never looked into it. I will however go check it out. Just purchased quixel. I've purchased more expensive whiskey before so for 70 dollars I may as well see what it's all about.
