Hi People,

Ehr im kinda in a dead point.
I dont know if to continue with 3Ds Max or not.
Its my passion though, because i really like it.
But i see how others grow and such, and im staying at the same level.(Kinda low though hehe)
Any advices?

Anyways i wanted to give it a last try and to make a model.

Decided to make a (female) robot with some real awesome blueprints/modelsheet that i found.

This modelsheet belongs to "Michael Kalimukwa" and i e-mailed him if i could use it for a 3D-workout.

I really want to focus on detail and i hope i get alot critism on it so i can learn from it.

I think you're jumping into details FAR too early. Your mesh is very wobbly and taking down the quality of the overall form. I looks like you're going for the generic white section robot style here and that thrives on very clean cut shapes and smooth surfaces and sharp edges/joints. Spend a lot more time tweaking yor mesh to tidy what you have in the blocking in stage before going into relatively insignificant things at this stage like screw slots and thumb grips.
Block things in first, get the overall mass and propertions of the model done first then step up a level and add more detail THEN add the fine detail.

If you've ever seen a painting being done they do a very fine wash of colour on the cancas first to get the feel of the image, then start to block in the main colours, the light direction .etc, then start to go in further with the small brushes to define the proper shapes. This is how you should be attacking your modelling too. Just dont get paint on your monitor ;)

from what you wrote you make it sound like this is the very first time you use Max. If so you would not benefit much jumping to other software.
As for your model it's like Grotey says, try to create the entire model first, rough and low poly, then start working in details.

Post the concepts you found, looks very interesting.

cool stuff man, keep posting updates!!

don't forget that on the edit poly modifier there is a tool to paint with a relax brush, that's pretty useful to smooth out certain areas while keeping things under control. (sorry bout being so vague, I don't use Max often and it's been a while)

Looks good mate, got a lot of promise am looking forward to your updates. I think you should follow what grotey said and block it all out first before adding details to get all the proportions ect correct. The feet look quite large compared to the legs at the moment and the feet seem to point inwards, however maybe it's meant to look like?

Use one of the methods from the link below to render your wireframes.

not bad, at this point however I would try to make her look more natural and sexy as stuff like that will only become harder at the level of detail you are working at.
The sculpt is looking too stiff for my taste right now.

the lack of knees bugs me

Thanks for your reply setherial
Anyways. just wanted to block out the head. so il have all proportions right
Then that natural/meshfix and then the mechanics ( things between body-arm ) and then start with some detail on it.
First want to have everything alright before i go to that level ;p

With natural forms you mean smoother? or just like u said the knee form?

Will edit this posts with a render of the blocked out model ( just the low detailed one with all parts )

no not smoother. there are tons of factors that can make a female sculpt sexy or not, pose, gesture, form, curves, it all works together and you need to be able to understand what makes the difference. You'll have to figur that out while you go.

Looks like its really coming along well. I hear what your saying seth, but how sexy can you make a robot?ha. I think you'll struggle to get proper femal curves in this model due to the lack of hips and ass.
