Question regarding referening
show user profile  magarlick
Hi folks

I usually use Copy and Instancing all the time, but I cannot seem to get Referencing to work properly.

I created a circular spline, then made a reference clone of it. I then gave the reference clone a larger radius ... and it got carried across to the original. I understood that this should not happen, that only changes to the original are copied across to its references, and that changes made to the latter do not affect originals. So what am I doing wrong?

Max 2011, Win 7 Sp1 x64

Cheers.

M.

well, references in max are technically instances with a reference breaker in their modifier stack. To put it simply, when you make a reference look in the modifier stack, everything above the break line is unique to the reference (unless you instance/reference it too), everything below is part of the base instance.
