Question Regarding Camera Mapping
show user profile  yamanash

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding camera mapping. I am working on shot integrating a simulation of a street tracking I did in Houdini with some tracked footage of that very street. I need to be able to map the road from the live-action shot onto the geometry of the fracturing street animation. I am aware that this can be done to match a single frame of the footage onto the cracking street, however the camera is also animated in the scene and the resulting texture map on the street geometry is unacceptable. My question is: Is there a better way of accomplishing this effect for a dynamic camera? What I was thinking of was a process like for every frame: Camera map current live-action frame onto a resting version of the street, that is an alembic with the same polys as the cracking one, though frozen at frame 1 > get these uvs and apply them to the animated alembic import > move to next frame and repeat. I am sure this is sort of a routine operation in vfx, I have just never had to do it before. I am able to get the exact effect I need by using the Channel Info utility to manually copy the uv info from the static WSM camera mapped geo and stick it on the animated geo. However, this operation needs to be automated every frame, or a modifier(s) which exhibit the behavior I am looking for need to be identified... Guidance would be much appreciated! :)
