Hello!What is the best way to unwrap a quad sphere(a cube with Spherify modifier on it) in 3ds max?
Please help me :(

What kind of object ist that quadsphere, what texture will it get?

Nope.UVW Map - Spherical will give a ton of distorsion :(
I need a very clean unwraping.
It must get any kind of texture (The unwraped earth texture,for instance) and apply it propertly on the sphere,with no visible stretching,seams or distorsion

Is it even possible to unwrap a sphere with 0 distortion?

EDIT because I'm pretty sure every map is actually distorted because you cannot have a nice square representation of a sphere. You would have to make the texture specifically for the sphere as far as i can see....

Oh,yeah,i have read that article on wiki but isn't that a normal sphere?Mine is a quad sphere

Why did you choose a quad sphere? Is a quad sphere not just a slightly less accurate representation of a sphere made from quads and tri's with the added problem of being more difficult to accurately unwrap? I'm no unwrapping expert but i think it would be harder on a quad sphere.

So is that video showing an increase in polygon resolution based on view distance?

If you are any good at digital painting you could either custom make the texture or maybe even try making the texture on a program like zbrush by working directly onto the sphere.

With a normal sphere the best way I can think to map it is by splitting it into 3 sections you could tr splitting the quad sphere into sections and trying to make the texture seamless.

what do you want to do with the final product?

Yes,but it isn't that simple.The height map will be based on a randomly generated perlin noise map inside unity3d.So that's why i needed the sphere unwrapped on the whole uvw square.

I don't think you will get it to work without distortion. Wait until someone else with a little more experience here replies before giving up hope.

Seams V Distortion.

More seams = less distortion.
More distortion = less seams.

So... pick one!

Have you considered mapping it like you would a box? (in a sort've T shape?) If it's a box before you make it a sphere, then look at it like mapping a box. This should simplify things for you a great deal.
