Putting doors and windows in a wall
show user profile  k2b4e
I'm trying to put doors and windows into some walls for a house I'm making and is it true that once you convert it into an editable poly that you can't place windows/doors anymore? because it will not let me. If so, is there anyway to convert it back into just a wall system and not an editable poly? thanks

use the slice tool in edit poly
cut your frame, delete the polys and select the open edges,
then simply use edit.poly bridge tool to fill the openings between the wall.

It's true that once you make the aec objects into editable mesh or editable poly they won't go back. I tend not to use the wall objects in the first place because they are buggy and consume pc resources. Once you start modelling Walls as poly objects you'll never go back. There's nothing stopping you from throwing aec doors and windows into poly modelled Walls though - they can provide a good base mesh to enhance though further modelling work.
