purchasing older version of 3dsmax?
show user profile  oren
hey there,

I would like to purchase a 2nd hand legit version of 3dsmax (ideally version 3,4,5). Any idea where I can get one?

Would really appreciate any input.

Cheers,
Oren

p.s.
Last time I was a member here (roughly 7 years ago) my nickname was gorgon / dragonlore. Its still inspiring to see how many of the members from back then are still around (ancient pig, strat, Setherial, MrPumpernickel). Really brought a smile to my face!

Warning : Autodesk don't allow you to transfer licenses once a product has been registered.

(I don't like it either)

Last I checked - which was a couple years ago - 3DS MAX 3 was free, and I don't mean through piracy. Though I could be wrong. I suggest contacting Autodesk about this. They may very well just send you a copy they have lying around or something.

what do you want to do with it ?

there might be cheaper alternatives that might not force you to use something that outdated. I for one love the price of a ZBrush License. Ok Zbrush is not Max but for what I do it's pretty much all I need (that and photoshop).

Maybe they've changed licensing terms since earlier versions, or perhaps it depends who you speak to at AD and what mood they are in !

Gmax was something else, released for free as a way to create custom content for compatible games.

I also started with MAX 3 :D Though MAX 4 had just been released at the time.

I don't think they would be giving it away, normally they cancell the version and don't allow it to be sold any longer once the current stock is depleated.

and i know this is going to date me, but i remember starting on 3d studio DOS. DOS was the before windows operating system were you had to actually type. I got a student bundle of autocad 12 and 3d studio dos v 2. I just looked at the book and it is copywrited 1996.

gmax was max 4, minus a few useful things like import/export and rendering and other stuff...
