Hey guys,
I need to make an animation of a camera lens sort of like the James bond one closing and opening on a text how can i animate that?

erm.. James Bond opening is shot down a gun barrel....? have you tried anything sofar? try to search on google image for a couple of references because noone will be able to help you with only one vague sentence dude...

Put a plane in front of your camera. Give it a material with a Gradient Ramp in its opacity slot. Set the gradient type to radial, the interpolation to solid, the colors to black and white and animate the central color flag to change the radius.

Heh, I've always seen the james bond titles as a camera aperture too :D A gun barrel would be logical lol doh!

fun subject.

make a tube, with a difference in the radiuses that's pretty big (doesn't matter how big since you'll never see the outside of the tube)

give it 24 sides and about 12 hieght segments

add an edit poly

in vertex mode, grab every 3rd column of vertexes on the inner of the two circles

hold ctrl and switch to edges (with the button, not the numbers on your keyboard)

press shrink selection.

you should now have every third row of edges on the inside circle but not the caps or outside circle.

chamfer just a little bit (my tube radius was 32, i chamfered 1)

hold ctrl and switch to faces

shrink selection

extrude by "local normal" for me it was about -2.

add a twist modifier, rotate until you like how many times it spins (200 here, but u can only see about half the tube in the render)

add a turbosmooth

if it's not working, make sure you got out of all sub-object modes in edit poly before applying the twist modifier, otherwise it applies to selection, which is empty.
