product lighting
show user profile  rob@dynamic
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had a good tutorial link for setting up a decent light rig with soft shadows for a product / studio shot?

Thanks in advance

Rob

aye. wiki should give a good set of explanations for the basics.

i do product rendering for brochures on a daily bases these days, in a whole host of environments from studio to luxury apartments, but the lighting principals are most similar. and very different from archi-rendering.

a good key spot light at 3/4 height, a more distant area fill light from the other frontal side of the product and a flatter straight on rear fill light are what i use. along the basic 3 point system. for pro product lighting this method is most tried and tested. i try to emulate what the photographers back in our photographic studio will do. product rendering is a very picky process, often involving a shed load of photoshop post and a good few different render passes to get the required lighting and reflection passes. professionally it wont generally be done in a single pass. the final shot will more often than not be a combination of passes that cant physically exist in a single shot.
