Problems with proboolean

I've encountered an issue with proboolean substraction

I want to do something like the following:

On my work, which is the following pic:

the problem occurs when instead of substracting, it copies the object is was meant to substract

as you can see, on both the first picture and the last picture, the settings are the same

Am I doing anything wrong or is there another way to accomplish something similar to the first pic?

Delete that top face your trying to cut into, then using the border selection tool select the inside edge, holding the shift key drag the edge in and down a few times untill you get the cutout shape you want. Simple job done :)

k thanks, but I was hoping if someone could tell me if what's happening to me its a bug or why it isnt working that way
