I have been running into this a bit and I was looking for some answers. Dial upers don't click this.

Thanks for any help.

in my problem, i was welding in vert mode and when i export the unwrap map, i end up with a bunch of triangular polies going to the bottom corner (0,0 location) of the wrap map. doesn't show on the screen in the unwrap, only when i export it with textporter.

have you tried to switching to vertex and welding it that way? see what happens

First of all, why do u have 3 edges on the mesh in the viewport, but only one in the uvw editor.
Anyway when using stich ure supposed to select one set of edges, on the 'target' mesh, not 2 sets on both uv chunks.

don't think i've ever stitched edges in the uv editor before, i just stick to verts if i have to
but even then it's just target welding really because moving a vert even a bit is to cause stretching and distortion- assuming of course they are mapped without stretching and distortion in the first place- but then i use roadkill so i can pretty much do it all in that and only use the max uvw ed to move chunks around

your chamfered faces on the model are collapsed in the uv editor so dragging a box over the edge in the eidt window is just selected all 3+ edges at once and max wont allow you to stitch more than one edge unless they are along the same open edge on the same uv element.

the best thing you can do is select the chamfer faces, then do a quick box mapping of them in the edit window then go on to stitching them afterwards.
