Problems installing VRay
show user profile  vikki sixx
Hey guys,

My laptop recently crashed and I had to re-install all my software, which included 3ds Max 9 and also VRay 1.5. I had this working perfectly for quite a while but remember that initially VRay was not the easiest thing to get right - but I can't remember what I did to get it working.

I install the software and then get the following messages when starting Max:

Error 127: failed to initialize (all the following):
- \root\plugins\vrender60.dlr
- .............. 60.bmi
- .............. 60.dlo
- .............. fur60.dlo
- .............. camera60.dlo
- .............. plane60.dlo
- .............. sphere60.dlo
- .............. mtl60.dlt
- .............. blendmtl60.dlt
- .............. color60.dlt
- .............. tex60.dlt
- .............. dirt60.dlt
- .............. fastsss60.dlt
- .............. gimtl60.dlt
- .............. vraysky60.dlt
- .............. spherefade60.dlr
- .............. toon60.dlt

I have the V-Ray floating license server running with a current active code in use displayed.

Any ideas what could be wrong here ?

Thanks
Vic

are you pointing it to the max plugins directory? cause there really isn't a way to screw up vray's install...

done it tons of times myself, never had a problem (outside of the occasional lack of permission to write something somewhere).

Yes, I think it's right ....

When prompted for the destination folder i use the following for the Main and Plugin directtories:

3dsmax root folder:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9

VRay plug-ins destination folder:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\plugins

Is that correct ?

Install again, it will ask to remove the old version. This should sort your problem i think.

tried that ... still got the same problem. Think it's worth re-installing Max and VRay again ?

you could install them to a folder on your desktop and manually put them into your max plugin dir...
