Problem vertices (skin modifier) not responding to bones
I hope someone can help me out.I am working in 3dsmax 2010 (32 bit version), but the same problem in the x64 version. I made a model added a uvw unwrap modifier, then i added the skin modifier. I've made a biped with two added bones for a jaw. And did hide the parts of the biped that i did not need. I've read on the internet that this was the only way if you didn't want to use some parts of the biped.
Next i've added weight to all the bones i've added in the skin modifier. But on some bones 2 or 3 vertices keep staying red no matter what i change in the abs. affect field. If i click on a certain bone all the affected vertices show up normally. But when i change one of the bones the model keeps unaffected. I don't know what to do anymore... i've never seen this problem before and i don't know how to fix it. I didn't work in max for some while now and i trought i did something wrong but i can't find out what.
i've added the file now..

I had a quick check and turned on mirror mode. It seems your model is mirrored 90 degrees off. Unfortunately it will mean you have to re-skin.
First thing I'd do is make a duplicate of your model and move it aside. You'll have to delete the skin modifier but keep the uvw unwrap.
I'd chuck your model in the center of x,y,z space -> reset xform (system tab -> xform -> reset, collapse stack) -> cut the base of the bear in half along the x-axis -> delete one half -> align all the verts along the center (here's a pic)...
Then apply symmetry. Now copy the unwrap from the first bear, click on the new bear and paste the unwrap in the modifiers tab.
Now re-skin the bear.
P.S. If you do decide to center the bear on x,y,z you'll also have to move the bones into place. Be extra careful that they are exactly in the correct spots or you will have some mirroring issues.
