Noob problem : Cannot see RGB view in render
show user profile  simons
Hi,

I'm using the 30 day trial of 3ds Max 2011 32bit and am in need of some help:

I have a model of a car which is visible in the viewports but when I look at it in the Rendered Frame Window and in the resulting rendered output I cannot see it. The alpha information is there, but the RGB shows black (I'm guessing it's invisible).

Can anyone please point me to some settings I should check?

Many thanks!
Simon.

Do you have any light in your scene?

Hi Garp,

Thanks for replying.

Yes, I have one photometric light; spherical shape with attenuation parameters.

Also, I should have previously added that I'm rendering with Mental Ray.

Best,
Simon.

Thanks for the heads-up on lighting.
I thought using a standard light might fix it but the render is still extremely underexposed. I can see a couple of faint highlights on the object (only 99% black) so I know it's an illumination issue.

Are there any other ways to fix the lighting for render?

Thanks,
Simon.
