Problem with cloning edge with faces.
show user profile  ap-projects
Hiya fellas!

I need a little help. I want to make a racing track in 3ds max. I used loft for the track itself, now I need to make the surroundings. I tried to clone some edges of the track by using SHIFT+drag in edge edit mode on an editable poly, but it does to the direction I move the mouse. That's not exactly I want to do. I want to keep the direction of the orthogonal edge. OK, I'm not good at explaining it, so here is what I want:

So I want to make the new edges along that way marked with the arrows at once. I hope my explanation is clear. I don't want to use loft for this I want more freedom in editing.

EDIT: just to avoid further confusion: the blue lines are hand-drawn to show my aim.

Select a radius edge (short blue edge} select 'ring' then 'connect' (using the small 'settiings' button) then use the 'slide' option in settings to position it where you want

EDIT: Hehe... ah crap, I just noticed that the blue edges are hand drawn and what I said makes no sense at all... move along, nothin' to see here. :)

markoid: oops, maybe I should mention that they are hand drawn. :) Yeah, if they were real, it would be way easier the way that you mentioned.

sheheryar_noor, well, not of them really work. If I use scale tool it scales from the gizmo, not based on the edge direction. Actually I found a workaround making a spline from the selected edges and I can loft them, but it's not really the best way for me.
