How to prevent clothing intersections?
show user profile  ugtv.org
I have a character with a coat and pants. When the character bends at the knees, the pants flare out and penetrates through the coat. Is there a way to prevent this, and have the pants push the coat out as well?

Well if you are not in need of any fancy simulation, you can add a Skin modifier, and rig it.

Otherwise you would like to make a cloth simulation, Autodesk changed the process of that in 3DSmax over the past years. As you not mentioned your currently used version I suggest to google it up. "3DS Max [Your currently used version] cloth simulation".

Congrats, you found my signature.

So I found this in the Cloth Setting Rollout.
http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/15/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/index.html?url=files/GUID-52F1A597-3471-49E3-8898-EA292544709B.htm,topicNumber=d30e74271

Repulsion - The amount of force used to repel other cloth objects. This value is irrelevant if cloth-to-cloth collisions are disabled.

Where I do I check if cloth-to-cloth has been disabled?

I figured it out. There is no cloth-to-cloth check box. Instead it's called "Self Collision." If you check that, the various cloth objects won't intersect.
