Does anyone use Power Core Tools for Max?

Apparently "Most things are self explanationary"...well not to feckin me they're not :/


Can anyone give me a run down, I've tried unticking a couple of cores but all max out at render, not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

Current affinity = 0x0005

Seems obvious to me (not)


For what it's worth, you can achieve similar with the task manager to lower the priority or limit core usage.

Ah right so that's all it does ? I was already manually setting "affinity" for a couple of cores for other things, what threw me was HwInfo shows the threads maxing out, Core Temp shows the same threads with no load :/

I took a screen shot of the buffer and counted the buckets..I thought I'd see 28 not 32, so the buckets remain, but are flaccid and basically useless...like clingons on the starboard bow...or just basically the lowest affinity...back of the queue.

..hmmm.

...I am drunk you know...I@m rendering a sugar coated Texas whilst drinking copious amount of vodka.

It seems HwInfo shows all core frequency full on, that's what got me confused (and the vodka)... task manager seems to do the same, the only tool that shows the cpus not under load is core temp, and of course I can feel my system more responsive when I set affinity.

...and I wasn't kidding about Texas :)



...and yes it's kitchen.hdr :p

Ok, I think I have it now...ahem....

HT is enabled, Core Temp displays *Physical Cores* not *Virtual Cores*, so when I'm watching Max clunk along using one *Core* at 50%, it's actually using one Thread at 100%.

I was going to try disabling HT, but everything else is fine and dandy, games run fine at very high settings, and switching power options from balanced to highest got rid of the slight "sluggishness" I could feel on the desktop and UI's.

Pretty much zings now

Cheers Nik, took around an hour...didn't mind as there were 32 buckets hammering at it :)

Multiscatter with about 37 billion instances...and I STILL haven't found a decent method to have a gazillion semi transparent objects distributed over an object with decent distribution control & penetration, render times go sky high with all the overlaps.
