you also might want to check for duplicate vertices, sometimes when cutting you can end up with all kinds of weird shapes in a planar space

Not relevant to this problem, but based on the amount of chamfering on the back of the rifle, it's not going to be low poly, so you'd probably want to turbosmooth it when finished, and that same chamfer in the back will give you tons of problems (to be exact, the 50-sided polygon that the chamfering left on the side)
