poly modeling help needed

i want to model a perfect circular cut out of a plane by low poly modeling method. don't have a clue how to do that. can someone tell me how. obvioulsy i don't want to use booleans. thanks in advance.

Here's the image to show what I want to achieve

Booo! to everyone for not giving a single reply booo! :p

heres how i would do it matey

1. create a sphere to the correct size, and convert to and editable poly

2. select the top faces you dont want

3.delete the selection

4. invert the normals (select faces, right click, flip normals) then select eh open edge in border mode

5. hold shift and drag the edge out using the scale tool.

6. select one quarter of the edges on one side

7. click the corresponding axis button in the modify panel to make them planar in one axis

8. do the same to the opposite side (must be done in this order)

9. do the other two sides (individually)

10. shift drag the open edge in border mode down using themove tool to create the box shape, then cap the hole at the bottom

I'f of replied, and i'd of used a much slower method yielding the exact same results!

Just a shame I didn't check maxforums when this was posted eh?
